Ancestral Wild Medicine

As I was foraging for wild food in the woods yesterday I realised how lucky I was to have the opportunity to enjoy this simple pleasure. To be able to choose and pick flowers and leaves that had flourished naturally with the elements and seasons brings to them added vitality that I know will nourish me in so many ways. The woodland floor is in a constant cycle of decay and renewal much like our bodies. Every year without fail there is new growth as the first plants poke their heads from beneath the fallen leaves. Each day I visit the ancient woodland there is more growth, change and magic in the air.

I am particularly interested in sharing with you the added benefits of wild harvested food. Not only is the nutritional content exceptionally high having  grown under natural conditions, but the plants hold the quality of the environment, you could say life force. This is referred to as prana, chi or mana by our ancestors and indigenous peoples, and though it is difficult to grasp, it can surely be tasted and felt in our bodies. We require less of it to sustain us for it recharges our cellular batteries immediately.

I was reading the article I have attached below in Scientific American about the “Before Times.” This is when our innate immune system would be highly tuned with our environment and meet and be able to deal with many potential pathogens. We may have relied on our natural killer immune cells much more to keep us well, rather than the B cells that are written about . The corona virus is not new. By returning to the land, becoming familiar with nature again, we can reawaken ourselves and our bodies and meet the diversity of all that life offers in 2021. Picking and eating wild food is one way to mobilise a healthy immune system.
