Cowslip (Primula veris)

I love the first sighting of the cowslip flowers open in my garden. Why am I so attracted to them? When I moved house a few years ago there were none in the flower beds, however, two springs ago one appeared. I was so excited. It is illegal to pick cowslips from the wild as their numbers have been decreasing, so I thanked the bird that helped my celebration.

Today I saw a whole bank of them vibrating in the wind and rain. Their essence and colour took me to way up to the stars and to the place of creation deep within all of us for our own blossoming and flowering. It reminded me of my lack of confidence at times and the recent difficulty in making a buttercup flower essence. You guessed right, buttercups help us to be confident in our abilities and able to face any change of circumstance or opportunity that we encounter.

Cowslips have varying number of flower heads on the one stem, just as constellations have different numbers of stars. The vision of the bank of cowslips felt like the milky way and the solar system vibrating and moving above my head. The velvet blue darkness holding the shimmering lights. The tall stem perhaps represents our journey back up to the stars again so we can listen to their wisdom of vibrating resonance in the darkness of creation and death.

Cowslip brings back confidence to our inner child to continually play and find joy in all things. It is related to the essence of Mother Mary.
